MTG Awarded Innovation Prize
Intelligent power grids, so-called "smart grids", ensure important supply services in many areas - for example as part of the energy revolution. But in other high-tech systems, too, more and more devices are communicating with each other on the basis of digital infrastructures. The more virtual they become, the more threatened they are by possible hacker attacks and cyber-attacks. The protection of critical infrastructures is therefore a top priority for industry and government.
Against this background, the Darmstadt-based security specialist MTG received an award for its encryption software MTG CryptoController as part of the nationwide innovation competition "Germany - Land of Ideas".
This security module can be integrated into computer-based systems by companies and institutions in order to effectively protect them against criminal attacks.
The MTG CryptoController is based on a highly complex encryption of data (cryptography) and the allocation and management of certificates and keys. The methods used comply with the high requirements of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Since February 2005, MTG's own Evaluation Facility for IT security has been one of only eight facilities recognised by the BSI.
The award ceremony in Darmstadt took place on 1 July 2015 at the DARZ (Darmstädter Rechenzentrum), Julius-Reiber-Straße 11, from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
